Crop ‘N Chat

For February’s Crop N Chat on Saturday, 2/20, from 6-9pm, we will be incorporating a project to help others in need. The 3rd Saturday in February is Project Linus’ “Make a Blanket Day.” You may check out their website at www.projectlinus.org . Anyone who is interested in helping is welcome to participate! We will be making hand-tied fleece blankets for children in the Columbia area.

Project Linus is an organization where- “It is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

Our blankets will be distributed through Project Linus to 3 of our Columbia Hospitals, Rainbow House & Open Arms Pregnancy Center.

All blankets must be handmade & washable. If you would like to donate fleece material (crib size or larger), we will have a container in the Fellowship Hall. You are also welcome to donate any other type of handmade blanket (knitted, quilted, etc) that would be suitable for a child.

Healing Waters

by Nancy Rue & Stephen Arterburn

From the book jacket:

When life seems to conspire against you, how do you find the courage to dive into Healing Waters?

When Lucia Coffey looks at her reflection, she sees fat & failure. When she looks at her sister Sonia, she sees svelte and success. When she looks at God, she sees that divine love can’t possibly be doled out equally. All her life, Lucia has coped by throwing herself into taking care of those who seem more worthy of God’s goods, and feeding the dreams she has buried alive.

But when tragedy strikes Lucia’s family, she meets Sullivan Crisp–a decidedly offbeat psychologist who is trying to cope with his own shattered past. They form an alliance to try to hold her family together and, in the process, both tentatively dip their toes into the waters of healing. Step by faltering step they wade in, forging an unlikely community and digging deep for the courage to face a lurking danger that could pull them under…or remind them what it’s like to dance on the waves.

Secret Sisters Ministry

The main purpose of the Secret Sister Ministry is to uplift your secret sister in prayer daily throughout the 11 week session. Send cards, notes, gifts to your secret sister so that she KNOWS that you are remembering her daily. It does not need to be extravagant, just something to let her know she is in your thoughts.

Have fun — enjoy getting to know your sister! You can be the instrument God has placed in this person’s life to give her the encouragement she needs right when she needs it.

What are your responsibilities if you participate in the Secret Sisters program?

1. Know that it is a commitment. The lady you are assigned will be expecting you to uphold her in your prayers and she should be able to rely on you for encouragement.

2. Pray daily for you sister. Get to know her needs and her family’s needs so that you may pray specifically for them.

3. Make an effort to get to know your sister. Discover her likes & dislikes. Know her favorites. Find out all about her.

4. Be an encouragement to your sister. Send her cards, notes or small reminders of encouragement!

  • Although we do permit gift giving, we ask that you keep the cost of gifts within the set guidelines. This will help everyone feel comfortable with giving and receiving gifts.
  • Make sure you contact your sister by some tangible means at least once every 3 weeks.

Cost Guidelines

Please keep gift & note costs under $10 per month.

Gifts for the Revealing should cost under $10.

Food gifts, candy & handmade gifts are encouraged.

****We will have a “swap table” in the Fellowship Hall for Sisters to leave notes or small gifts for each other. If you would like to mail a card to your Sister, you are welcome to use the church’s mailing address for your return address information.
